If you’ve ever inquired with a South African embassy or consulate abroad regarding obtaining a Police Clearance from abroad, you are probably well aware that the process is expected to take months to complete. There is also a risk that your application might get lost, and even worse, receive a PCC (police clearance certificate) with incorrect details. But there is hope!
It has always been a mission to obtain official documents from within South Africa, and the problem’s severance gets much worse when you apply from outside of the republic. However, you do not need to be physically present in South Africa to apply for and receive your Police Clearance.
How can I get a PCC if I’m outside of South Africa?
Apostil.co.za is a registered courier with the Criminal Records Center (CRC). The CRC is a division of the South African Police Services. And they are in charge of issuing Police Clearance Certificates. A large number of our clients are based outside of the country. Yet we are still able to apply for their certificates on their behalf and then simply courier the certificates to our clients.
You can apply for your PCC by completing the online application form. After completing the forms, you can digitally send us copies of the accompanying documents we need to complete your application. We can help speed up the process at the CRC if needed and also obtain reprints in record time should any errors occur on your certificate.
If you’re based in a country, such as Spain, where a sworn translation is required before the document can legally be used, Apostil.co.za can also have it translated by one of our network sworn translator members.
How do I get started with my application?
All applications for police clearance certificates start with the essential step of having your fingerprints taken. You can actually have your fingerprints taken anywhere. Just as long as there is a lawyer, notary, or commissioner of oaths present to sign and stamp the fingerprint form. The official then verifies that the prints are authentic. This means you do NOT have to get your fingerprints taken at the nearest police station, embassy, or consulate.
The fingerprints must be verifiably those of the applicant and must be submitted in original ink. The reason for this is because they are scanned and converted into images at the Criminal Records Center. Along with your fingerprints, it is also essential to submit a copy of your South African Identity Document along with the completed application form.
Are you a foreigner in need of a Police Clearance Certificate for South Africa? You will still follow the same steps. However, instead of an ID document, you will simply submit a copy of your foreign passport.
