If you’re a South African living overseas, your story is part of something much bigger. And the University of Cape Town wants to hear it. The UCT Liberty Institute of Strategic Marketing has launched the South African Diaspora Survey 2025, a first-of-its-kind initiative to better understand the lives, motivations, and experiences of South Africans abroad. Whether you’ve relocated for work, study, family, or simply for a change of scenery, your perspective can help shape valuable research that explores what it truly means to live beyond South Africa’s borders.

Why your participation matters for the Diaspora Survey
South Africans are known for their adaptability, creativity, and strong sense of identity, no matter where they go. Yet the full picture of the South African diaspora remains largely untold. Through the Diaspora Survey, UCT aims to uncover how living abroad impacts people’s sense of belonging, career development, and long-term plans.
The study also looks at the challenges faced by South Africans overseas, including immigration hurdles, staying connected to home, and navigating new cultures. By sharing your experiences, you’ll help researchers, policymakers, and future expatriates understand what life abroad really looks like from a South African perspective.
About the South African Diaspora Survey 2025
The survey is completely anonymous and takes just five minutes to complete. Your responses will be used for research purposes only, and you can withdraw at any time. Once all data has been collected, participants will receive a summary of the findings, offering a fascinating look at how South Africans around the world are adapting, thriving, and staying connected to their roots.
This project has received ethical approval from the University of Cape Town, ensuring that all responses are handled responsibly and confidentially.

Why Apostil.co.za is sharing this initiative
At Apostil.co.za, we regularly assist South Africans who are starting new lives abroad, from getting documents apostilled to preparing visa applications, marriage certificates, and academic qualifications for international use. We understand the paperwork, the planning, and the emotion that go into every move.
That’s why this initiative resonates so deeply with us. It’s an opportunity to give South Africans abroad a collective voice, helping to build a clearer picture of our global community.
Whether you’re living in the UK, Australia, the Netherlands, or anywhere else in the world, your input can make a real difference.
